The Nicomachean Ethics Book By Aristotle PDF Free Download, Overview, Summary, Reviews, Get Book, Quotes, Videos, More By Author.
Focuses On The Topic Of How To Live Properly And Creates The Idea Of Developing A Moral Character As The Cornerstone Of His Ethical Philosophy. The Author’s Goal In Writing This Book Was To Investigate What Makes People Happy. It Talks On The Characteristics Of Practical Thinking, The Worth Of Pleasure, The Objects Of Pleasure, And The Many Types Of Friendship.
In The Macedonian City Of Stagira, Aristotle Was Born In 384 Bc, And He Passed Away In 322. He Attended Plato’s Academy In Athens Where He Studied Before Serving As Alexander The Great’s Teacher And Eventually Founding His Own Institution, The Lyceum, In The City. His Works, Which Covered A Wide Spectrum, Had A Significant Impact On The Development Of Ancient, Mediaeval, And Contemporary Philosophy. The Nicomachean Ethics And The Politics And Poetics, Among Others, Have Survived.
Although There Were Some Creases On The Corners And A Ding On The Side Of The Book, Generally It Was In Excellent Shape. No Typos; The Pages Are Of Average Quality.
The 4th-century Bc Book “The Nicomachean Ethics” By Aristotle Examines The Pursuit Of Pleasure And The Qualities Of A Virtuous Man. What Is A Decent Person, How Do We Live Successful Lives, And Why Should Happiness Be Our Ultimate Objective Are Additional Terms Used. This Book Is Notable For Aristotle’s Presentation Of The “Golden Mean” And Continues To Have A Significant Impact On Western Ethics And Other Fields.
After 2,500 Years, I Can Only Say That I Enjoyed Reading It, But I Don’t Intend To Do It Again. Aristotle, Like The Most Of His Texts, Is Difficult To Read Even When You Are Focused And Patient. This Is Also True Of “The Nicomachean Ethics”. Particularly The First Section, Which Describes The Ideal Balance For An Unending List Of Values That Is Sometimes Believed To Be A Sisyphean Struggle To Achieve. The Second Section, Which Focuses On Joy, Pleasure, And Companionship, Is Easier To Read. I Was Only Able To Finish The Book Piecemeal And In Conjunction With Some Excellent Online Lectures And Podcasts That Concisely Outlined Aristotle’s Philosophy.
In Conclusion, “The Nicomachean Ethics” By Aristotle Is A Difficult Book To Read Yet One Of The Most Significant Works In Western Civilization. Therefore, It Is Probably Only Understandable To People Who Have A Strong Passion For The Classics And Ancient Philosophy.
“One Day, Like One Swallow, Does Not Make A Summer.” In A Same Vein, One Day Or A Short Period Of Time Cannot Make A Guy Fortunate Or Happy.
Aristotle Looks Into The Nature Of Happiness In The Nicomachean Ethics. According To Him, Pleasure Is The Result Of “Soul Activity In Accordance With Virtue,” Such As Moral Qualities Like Fortitude, Kindness, And Justice, As Well As Intellectual Virtues Like Knowledge, Understanding, And Insight. The Ethics Also Covers The Nature Of Practical Reasoning, The Worth Of Those Things That Provide Joy, Many Types Of Friendship, And The Connection Between Personal Virtue, Society, And The State. The Writings Of Aristotle Have Had A Deep And Enduring Impact On All Subsequent Western Ethical Theory.
Hugh Tredennick Has Edited J. A. K. Thomson’s Translation, And Jonathan Barnes Has Written A New Preface To Go With It. A Revised Chronology Of Aristotle’s Life And Works Is Also Included In This Version, Along With An Updated List Of Recommended Reading Material.
On Earth, We Only Have A Little While. However, A Lot Of Us Lead Routine Lives, As If Tomorrow Would Always Come. It Takes A Lot Of Mind Training To Break Free From That Mental Prison And Perceive Life For What It Is—a Path Towards Eudaimonia, Attaining Your Goals, And Continuously Bettering Yourself.
You Must First Leave The Mental Prison And Reawaken In Your Own Flesh In Order To Seek Eudaimonia, Which Aristotle Defines As A Condition Of Satisfaction When Peace And Tranquilly Rule. Aristotle’s 10 Distinct Works On Living Ethics Are Collected As The Nicomachean Ethics. It Will Help You Learn Important Lessons While Freeing Your Mind Of The Excess Baggage Of Ideas That Prevent You From Becoming Your Greatest Self.
Everyone Struggles To Find Happiness. Humans Are Compelled By Nature To Pursue Their Passions, Act In Ways That Make Them Feel Good, And Seek Pleasure. Many Of Us Define It As Having Excellent Health, A Solid Reputation, Or Decent Financial Circumstances. Aristotle, However, Often Argues Against Accepted Notions Of Success And Pleasure. Instead Of Working Hard To Better Your Worldly Situation And Expecting Pleasure As A Consequence, Strive For Genuine Fulfilment And Self-actualization.
Happiness Is Neither The Product Of Exogenous Forces Nor A Political Science. In Actuality, It’s A Product Of The Way We Behave And Live. Furthermore, This Idea Has Absolutely Nothing To Do With How Success Is Defined In The Modern World. A Condition Of Eudaimonia Involves The Heart, The Soul, And The Intellect. When One Achieves This Condition, They Are A Fortunate, Contented Person With Greater Spiritual Levels. According To Appearances, Eudaimonia Mostly Refers To Achieving Self-actualization.
This Idea’s Compatibility With Abraham Maslow’s Life Philosophy Is An Intriguing Fact. He Developed A Hierarchy Of Needs That Depicts The Five Stages Of Wants That People Experience, From Physiological To Self-actualization. When A Person Achieves This Point, They Have Realised Their Full Potential And Have Begun To Think Creatively, Much Like Geniuses. Additionally, They Are Inspired By Their Surroundings And Have A Unique Perspective On The World.
Happiness, In Aristotle’s Words, “Is A Virtuous Activity Of The Soul.” Being In Arete Means Leading A Life Of Virtue. This Term In Greek Denotes Greatness Or Reaching Your Full Potential. Virtue May Be Intellectual, Like Intelligence And Prudence, Or Moral, Like Moderation Or Self-control. Furthermore, This Experience Of Being Is Only Accessible When The Mind Has Wandered. In Order To Do It, We Must Tend To Our Bodily Demands And Rise Beyond Survival Mode.
The Advancement Of Civilization Has Been Facilitated By Our Capacity For Reason. We Determine Our Virtue And Strike A Balance Between Too Much And Too Little By Using Reason. Aristotle Connects Eating With Eudaimonia And Arete, The Ways To Achieve It. Our Health May Be Harmed By Either Too Little Or Too Much Of It, But A Balance Between The Two Can Protect And Maintain It. The Same Is True Of Our Qualities, Such As Patience, Bravery, Temperance, Modesty, And Others.
Arete Might Also Assist Us In Finding Happiness. In Truth, All Of Our Objectives Are Subliminally Set Up To Lead To Happiness. In Order To Achieve This, We Must Discover And Accomplish Our Purpose, Which Will Satiate Both Our Bodily And Spiritual Cravings.
It Is Also Everyone’s Goal To Reach Greatness And Virtue, Or Arete, Even If Doing So Requires A Lifetime Of Effort. Unfortunately, Not Everyone Succeeds. We Are What We Consistently Do, As Aristotle Once Said. Arete Is Thus A Habit Rather Than An Event. On The Road To Fulfilment, Everyone Must Overcome Obstacles, And The Sooner We Embrace These Obstacles, The Better.
Let’s Begin By Defining What It Means To Be Magnanimous. Aristotle Defined Magnanimity As Doing Honourably And Leading A Glorious Life. Eudaimonia And Living In Arete Are Prerequisites For Being Such. One Must Have A High Opinion Of Oneself, Understand The Need Of Giving Back, Assisting Others, And Practising Kindness And Virtue In Order To Be Magnanimous.
To Do This, You Must Also Give Generously Of Your Resources And Assist Others In Need. Simply Said, If You Realise Your Immense Value, You Will Be Able To Share It With The Rest Of The World After You Have Become The Finest Version Of Yourself. It Requires A Great Deal Of Self-reflection And Inner Development To Reach This State Of Mind, Which Is Not An Easy Achievement.
Greek Describes Pusillanimity As Living In Fear And Just Serving Your Own Interests. This Idea Indicates That You Are Unable To Take The Essential Steps To Seek And Maximise Your Best Self. It Entails Displaying A Lack Of Guts And Will To Change. This Frame Of Mind Will Keep A Guy Uninspired And Uncourageous Throughout His Whole Life.
You Must Take A Break From The Routine And Allow Your Thoughts To Wander If You Want To Break The Habit Of Leading An Unfulfilling Daily Existence. Make It A Point To Carry Out Your Cause And Consider Your Bigger Reason For Being Here. Take Bravery, Morality, And Empathy To Heart, And Put An End To Any Kind Of Fear, Egocentrism, Or Arrogance.
The Nicomachean Ethics Places A Strong Emphasis On The Idea That Self-improvement Is A Process That Never Really Stops, Even If You Reach Self-actualization Along The Way. You Will Become A Better, More Grounded Person As A Result Of Reading This Book, Which Will Cause You To Reconsider Your Guiding Principles And See Things From A Deeper Perspective.
