Auschwitz, 1943: My Fingertips Followed The Black Tattoo Engraved Over Her Delicate Leg As I Cradled The Little Newborn In My Arms. And I Hoped That One Day, This Set Of Numbers, Similar To Her Mother’s, Might Have The Ability To Bring A War-torn Family Back Together…
This Moving Tale, Based On An Astonishing Real Event, Tells Of One Woman’s Quest For Love, Life, And Hope In The Midst Of Unspeakable Tragedy.
Ana Kaminski Is Dragged Through Auschwitz’s Iron Gates Beside Her Terrified Little Companion Ester Pasternak. Ana Comes Forward And Casually Identifies Herself A Midwife – And Ester Her Helper – As They Approach The Head Of The Queue. Their Arms Have Been Tattooed, And They Have Been Sent To The Maternity Hut. Ana, Who Is Holding An Innocent Newborn Baby, Realises That The Destiny Of So Many Is In Her Hands And Swears To Do Whatever She Can To Rescue Them.
As Two Ss Soldiers March In And Steal A Blond-haired Infant From Its Mother, It’s Nearly Too Much For Ana To Endure. Ana Consoles The Sobbing Lady, Realising That There Is A Ray Of Hope Despite The Horrible Pain. The Guards Are Removing The Most Healthy Newborns And Putting Them With German Families To Ensure Their Survival. And There Are Murmurs That The Fight Is Almost Ended… Ana And Ester Begin Surreptitiously Tattooing Children With Their Mother’s Phone Numbers, Hoping To Be Reunited One Day.
Suddenly, One Morning, Ana Detects A Slight Lump Under Ester’s Thin Striped Attire…
A Devastating And Riveting Ww2 Tale About One Woman’s Strength And Will To Offer Life And Hope To A Damaged Planet. Fans Of The Nightingale, The Alice Network, And The Tattooist Of Auschwitz Will Be Captivated.

I Aspired To Be A Novelist Since I Could Hold A Pen, And By The Age Of Nine, I Was Composing Boarding-school Tales. I Made The Early Error Of Believing I Needed To Obtain A “Real Profession” And Got Into Factory Planning, Which Provided Me With Some Beautiful Experiences, Excellent Friends, And Even A Lovely Marriage, But Didn’t Provide Any Creative Flexibility. Thus, After I Stopped Having Children, I Seized The Opportunity To Begin The ‘improper Career’ Of Writing. It Hasn’t Been Easy, But I Enjoy It And Don’t See Me Quitting Any Time Soon.
The Berlin Zookeeper Is The First In My New Wwii Fiction Series. It’s A Parallel Chronology Tale Set At Berlin Zoo In The Current Day And During The Height Of The War, As The Keepers Struggle To Rescue Both Their Animals And Themselves In The Face Of Horrific Suffering. The Hidden Diary, Which Will Be Released In August, Explores The Difficulties Faced By A Brave Group Of Young Women Attempting To Assimilate Back Into ‘regular’ Society After Living As A Tight-knit Squad Of ‘gunner Girls’ – And Trying To Conceal The Secret That Links Them…
I Also Write Mediaeval Fiction Under The Pen Name Joanna Courtney.
This Book Recounts The Truth About The Concentration Camps And The Atrocities Perpetrated By The Germans On Jews And Others. There Are Moments When I Have To Put It Down And Cry. Knowing That This Really Occurred Is Terrible, And It’s Hard To Believe That Humans Can Do Such Things To Others. Everyone Should Read This Book.
Ww2 Historical Fiction Is My Favourite Kind Of Book To Read, And This Is One Of The Greatest I’ve Ever Read. This Is A Genre. Such An Enthralling Narrative. People Who Fought Against, Endured Through, Survived, Or Were Killed By The Nazis Are Great Heroes, And This Book Captures That Brilliantly. Anna, You Did An Excellent Job. Thank You For Sharing This Tale And Shining Light On Such A Horrible Period In Our Country’s History. May We Never Forget The Tragedies Of Wwii. May We Continue To Remember The Valiant Men And Women Of That Era. May History Never Be Repeated.
That Was A Dramatic Depiction Of How Nasty All Of The Camp Guards Were, Particularly The Women. It’s Heartbreaking That The Blond Children, Regardless Of Their Jewish Heritage, Were Transferred To Foster Homes In Germany.
That Was A Fantastic Story, Except For The Fact That 2000 Infants Were Delivered In Two Years. Wouldn’t The Secret Tattoo On Them To Identify Them After The War Have Been Discovered?
This Is A Work Of Fiction, Yet It Celebrates The Men And Women Who Endured The Atrocities Of The Camps. This Should Never Happen Again.
This Book Was Quite Nicely Written. I Finished It In Three Days. Reading It Brought Tears To My Eyes. This Novel Exemplifies Bravery In My Opinion. Although Being “Historical Fiction,” It Is Based On Genuine Experiences From A Survivor Of Auschwitz-birkenau.
I Couldn’t Stop Reading It. This Period In History Should Never Be Forgotten. A Fantastic Tale. In Actuality, I Don’t Believe The Women Were Permitted To Retain Their Baby.
Such An Incredible Tale. I Recognise That This Book Is Fictitious, Yet It Contains Some Actual Themes. The Courageous Men And Women Who Did Not Turn A Blind Eye When Such Atrocities Befell Their Neighbours. Such Mental Fortitude They Must Have Had To Survive All That Was Thrown At Them. I Know I’ll Never Truly Comprehend The Atrocities Of Wwii, But Just Feeling The Sorrow And Efforts For One Book Gives Me So Much Strength.
Anna And Ester Were Fantastic. I Liked That They Weren’t Flawless, But That Their Feelings And Challenges Were Genuine. Even In The Face Of Such Adversity, The Resilience They Shared And The Progress They Achieved Was Remarkable.
