Synopsis Of The Hobbit

The Life Of Bilbo Baggins Is One Of Quiet Peace And Comfort In His Little Hole At Bag End. Because He Is A Hobbit, A Little, Plump Race That Is About Half The Size Of Humans With Furry Toes And A Strong Passion For Fine Food And Drink, Bilbo Lives In A Hole. At Bag End, Close To The Bustling Hobbit Village Of Hobbiton, Bilbo Is Content. However, One Day, The Old Wizard Gandalf Arrives And Convinces Bilbo To Go On An Adventure With A Group Of Thirteen Militant Dwarves. In Order To Reclaim Their Treasure From The Rogue Dragon Smaug, The Dwarfs Are Setting Off On A Great Adventure, And Bilbo Will Serve As Their “Burglar.” Bilbo Is Terrified To Leave His Comfortable Life To Seek Adventure, And The Dwarves Are Quite Dubious Of Gandalf’s Choice For A Burglar. There Is More To The Little Hobbit Than Meets The Eye, Gandalf Assures Both Bilbo And The Dwarves.

Three Hungry Trolls Capture Everyone Of The Group Save For Gandalf Shortly After They Leave The Group’s Starting Point. When The Sun Rises, Gandalf Tricks The Nocturnal Trolls Into Staying Outside, Where The Sunlight Turns Them To Stone. In The Trolls’ Camp, The Group Discovers A Large Cache Of Weapons. In Addition To Taking His Own Little Sword, Bilbo Also Takes Magic Swords From Gandalf And The Dwarf Lord Thorin.

The Group Takes A Break In Rivendell, The Stronghold Of The Great Elves, Where They Consult Lord Elrond For Guidance Before Setting Off To Cross The Misty Mountains. The Goblins Who Live In The Caverns Beneath The Mountain Capture Them When They Find Shelter In A Cave During A Snowstorm. The Dwarves Follow Gandalf’s Directions To A Way Out Of The Mountain, But They Unintentionally Leave Bilbo Behind.

Bilbo Discovers A Strange Golden Ring Lying On The Ground While Exploring The Tunnels. The Ring Is Taken By Him And Placed In His Pocket. Gollum, A Hissing, Whining Creature That Dwells In A Pool In The Caverns And Hunts Fish And Goblins, Appears Soon After. Gollum Wants To Eat Bilbo, So The Two Compete In A Riddle-solving Competition To Decide What Will Happen To Him. By Posing The Ambiguous Riddle, “What Have I Got In My Pocket?” Bilbo Triumphs.

In Spite Of His Desire To Devour Bilbo, Gollum Disappears In Order To Retrieve His Magic Ring, Which Makes Its Wearer Invisible. But The Ring Is The Same One That Bilbo Has Already Discovered, And He Uses It To Get Away From Gollum And The Goblins. The Dwarves And Gandalf Have Already Fled When He Discovers A Tunnel Rising Up Through The Mountain. Evil Wolves Known As Wargs Pursue Them, But Beorn, A Creature That Can Transform Into A Man Or A Bear, And A Group Of Large Eagles Assist In Bringing Bilbo And His Companions To Safety.

The Company Enters Mirkwood’s Dark Forest, And To Make Matters Worse, Gandalf Leaves Them Behind To Handle Some Other Urgent Business. The Dwarves Are Trapped In The Webs Of Some Giant Spiders In The Forest, And Bilbo Must Use His Sword And Magic Ring To Save Them. Bilbo Gives His Sword The Name Sting After Killing His First Spider. The Unfortunate Dwarfs Are Captured By A Group Of Wood Elves That Live Close To The River That Runs Through Mirkwood Shortly After They Manage To Escape The Spiders. In Order To Aid The Group’s Escape, Bilbo Uses His Ring. He Also Conceals The Dwarfs From The Elves By Placing Them Into Barrels That He Then Floats Down The River. At Lake Town, A Human Community Close To The Lonely Mountain Where The Great Dragon Sleeps With Thorin’s Treasure, The Dwarves Arrive.

Smaug, A Cunning Dragon, Unwittingly Reveals That His Armor-like Scales Have A Weak Spot Near His Heart When Bilbo Talks To Him After Sneaking Inside The Mountain. Smaug Gets Enraged And Flies Out Of The Mountain To Burn Lake Town When Bilbo Steals A Golden Cup From The Dragon’s Hoard. Heroic Archer Bard Kills Smaug By Shooting An Arrow Into His Heart After Learning The Dragon’s Weakness From A Thrush. But Smaug Destroys Lake Town Before He Passes Away.

Thorin Greedily Refuses, And The Humans And Elves Besiege The Mountain, Trapping The Dwarfs And The Hobbit Within. The Humans Of Lake Town And The Elves Of Mirkwood March To The Lonely Mountain To Seek A Share Of The Treasure As Compensation For Their Losses And Assistance. In An Effort To Promote Peace, Bilbo Sneaks Out To Join The Humans. Thorin Is Furious When He Discovers What Bilbo Has Done, But Gandalf Unexpectedly Reappears And Spares Bilbo From The Dwarf Lord’s Wrath.

The Humans, Elves, And Dwarves Are Now Forced To Work Together To Defeat A Goblin And Warg Army That Is Marching Up The Mountain. The Good Armies Prevail In The Battle Despite The Goblins Coming Close To Victory Thanks To Beorn And The Eagles’ Arrival.

Following The Battle, Bilbo And Gandalf Make Their Way Back To Hobbiton, Where He Stays To Live. Respectable Hobbit Society No Longer Accepts Him, But He Doesn’t Give A F*ck. After His Great And Terrifying Adventures, Bilbo Now Prefers To Converse With Elves And Wizards, And He Is Quite Happy To Be Back At Home Among The Familiar Comforts.

The Main Character In The Narrative Is Bilbo Baggins The Hobbit. The Eagles’ Lord The Dominant Eagle That Carries Bilbo, Gandalf, And The Dwarves To His Nest Located On A Mountain After Saving Them From The Wargs. The Battle Of The Five Armies Also Has Eagles Soaring Above.

Beorn Is Also Known As A Skin-changer Due To His Ability To Transform Into A Bear, Which Enables Him To Fight Against Wargs And Goblins. On Their Voyage To The Lonely Mountain, He Is Kind To Gandalf, Bilbo, And The Dwarves And Provides Them With Horses And Supplies. He Confronts The Goblins In The Battle Of Five Armies. On Their Journey Back To The Hobbit-lands, Gandalf And Bilbo Spend Yule With Him.

Elvenking King Of The Elves Holds Thorin And The Other Dwarves Captive In His Lair; Bilbo Frees Them And Conceals Them In Barrels Before Floating Them Down A River To Lake-town (Also Known As Esgaroth). At The Battle Of Five Armies, Elvenking Makes An Appearance.
