The Care And Keeping Of You: The Body Book For Younger Girls Book By Valorie Schaefer PDF Free Download, Overview, Summary, Reviews, Videos, Quotes, Get Book.
It Takes A Lifetime To Take Care Of Your Body. Moreover, Given That You Are Through Significant Changes, It Is More Crucial Than Ever.
Puberty Is A Unique Period Of Development And Change. Everyone Experiences It. Most Females Start It Between The Ages Of 8 And 13, And It Lasts Until Your Body Reaches Its Mature Height And Size, Which Is Between The Ages Of 15 And 17.
You Will Change Throughout Puberty, And Not All Parts Of You Will Develop At The Same Pace. You Could Sometimes Feel And Appear Like A Dog With Overgrown Paws. Your Skin, Hair, Breasts, And Other Body Parts Will Change, And You’ll Sense It. You’ll Also Feel Different Emotions. Hormones, The Substances Your Body Generates To Transform You From A Young Girl To A Woman, Are To Blame For All Of These Changes.
You Can Be Anxious About The Upcoming Changes Or You Might Be Enthusiastic For Your Body To Start Expanding. Yet The Less Astonished You Will Be, The More You Will Understand About Your Body. Get The Facts, Then. It’s A Good Place To Start To Read Novels Like This One. You’ll Discover Solutions To Issues You May Not Have Even Considered!
Yet, No Book Can Replace Talking To Your Parents, Your Doctor, Or Other Trusted Adults—people Whose Duty It Is To Look After You. There Are No Stupid Or Awkward Questions. Keep In Mind That The Adults In Your Life Were Previously In Your Position And May Offer You Their Knowledge And Experience.
You Could Feel Helpless In The Face Of Your Expanding Physique. It’s Untrue! When It Comes To Taking Care Of These Necessities, You Are In Charge.
It’s Alluring To Contrast Yourself With The Women You See On Television, In Publications, And In Motion Pictures. Hold On However! Is It Appropriate To Compare Yourself To Photos Taken And Cosmetics Applied By Professionals In Hollywood? No Way! You Don’t Need To Compare Yourself To Anybody, Not Even Your Pals Or The Other Schoolgirls. You Are Special And Lovely In Your Own Special Manner Because You Are An Original Wholly You.
A Girl’s Body Transforms Into A Woman’s Body Through Time, Not All At Once. Every Female Matures At Her Own Pace. Sisters Don’t Even Mature At The Same Pace. Also, It’s Important To Keep In Mind That Maturing Isn’t A Race. Being The First Or Last Girl To Wear A Bra Or Lose All Of Her Baby Teeth Has No Awards. Have Faith That Your Body Will Act Appropriately When The Moment Is Right For You.
The Girl With The Prettiest Face Or The Slenderest Waist Isn’t The Most Beautiful One In The Room. It’s The Female Who Exudes Self-assurance. She Is The One Who Sticks Out Above The Rest Of Them. You May Be That Girl. Positivity Is The Key To It All. See Yourself As A Full Person Shining Through Your Characteristics If You Want To Have A Positive Outlook. Instead Than Looking For Flaws In Yourself, Concentrate On Your Positive Traits. Never Question Your Abilities; Be Proud Of What You Accomplished.
Let’s Start At The Top With Advise On How To Handle Your Hair, Wise Counsel On Ears, And Dazzling Advice For Bright Eyes. See How A Happy Smile Results From A Healthy Mouth. Review The Fundamentals Of Teeth, Gums, And Braces. Get The Lowdown On Your Current Skin So You Can Present Your Best Self.
Keep It Tidy. Your Hair May Become More Greasy As You Age. Wash It Often To Keep It Clean. This Often Implies Many Times Each Week For Females. You May Want To Wash Your Hair Every Day If You’re An Active Athlete Or If It’s Really Greasy. Employ A Gentle Shampoo Designed For Your Particular Hair Type. Use A Conditioner To Detangle Your Hair If It Tangles Easily.
Use Dechlorination If You Swim, Be Sure To Rinse The Water Out Of Your Hair After Each Stroke. Some Chemicals May Turn Blonde Hair Green, And Chlorine Can Be Quite Drying. While You May Purchase Specific Shampoos Designed For Swimmers, Normal Shampoo Often Works Just As Well.
Wash Your Tools. Make Sure Your Combs And Brushes Are As As Spotless As Your Hair. Give Them A Quick Rinse In Warm, Soapy Water Once A Week; You May Use Shampoo Or Even Mild Dish Soap. Rinse Completely. Avoid Tangling Up Little Areas Of Your Hair May Be Detangled Using A Wide-tooth Comb While It’s Still Damp. Work Your Way Up, Starting With The Ends. Don’t Yank If You Run Into A Difficult Area! Use A Gentle Motion To Comb Your Hair.

And Once She Is At Ease With The Situation, She Will Be Prepared To Go On To The Care And Keeping Of You 2! Paperback. 104 Pages.
My First Introduction To Periods Was Via A Cartoon. A Huge White Book With Three Cartoon Girls On The Front Who Were Each Wrapped In A Towel And Dripping Wet, As If Just Out Of The Shower, Was Presented To Me By My Mother Just Before I Began Middle School. The Care And Maintenance Of You: The Body Book For Girls Was The Title Of The Book, Which Was Published By American Girl. “The More You Know About Your Body, The Less Strange And Humiliating Growing Up Will Seem—and The Simpler It Will Be To Speak About,” Reads A Note To Readers On The First Spread.
The Comprehensive Manual Began By Stating That “Everyone” Experiences Puberty Before Breaking Down Into Sections On Everything From Daily Hygiene To Your First Period. Every Page Showed Cheery Cartoon Women Of Different Shapes And Sizes Exhibiting Various Skills, Such As How To Shave Your Legs Or Find Your First Bra. I Can Still Recall Feeling A Bit Less Terrified Of What My Body Might Change Into As My Mother And I Read The Book Together. My Mother, However, Closed The Book After We Had Read About The Difference Between Training And Underwire Bras. When You’re Older, We’ll Read More, She Promised.
I Was Impatient. One Evening, I Took The Book Off Of Her Dresser And Read It While Hiding From The Light Of My Room’s Nightlight While Learning About My Menstruation, My Vagina, And The Hormones That Would Transform My Body From “Small Girl To Grown-up Woman.” In The Next Years, I Revisited The Book Often, Even When I Finally Started Having My First Period Two Years Later.
The Care And Maintenance Of You Was Not Just Comforting To Me. Since Its First Publication, The Book, Which Turns 20 In September, Has Sold More Than 5.1 Million Copies. Yet It Was Still Appearing On The New York Times Best-seller List As Late As 2016. Preteens, Parents, And Sex Educators Have All Appreciated It Because Of Its Welcoming Tone And Careful Introduction To Significant Anatomical Changes.
According To Heather Alberda, A Sexuality Educator At The Ottawa County Department Of Public Health In Michigan, “This Book Is One Of The Finest There Is In Terms Of Just A Fundamental, Basic, “This Is Your Body And This Is How It Works, And This Is What’s Going To Happen To It,”
The Book Became A Bestseller Right Away, And Barbara Stretchberry, The Executive Editor At American Girl Who Has Been There For 20 Years, Recalls Receiving Thank-you Notes From Tweens For The Book In Her Inbox. The Care And Maintenance Of You 2: The Body Book For Older Girls, Which Focused More On The Emotional Changes Experienced Throughout Puberty And Was Written For Readers Aged 10 And Older, Was Published In 2013 After The Firm Updated The First Book With Even More Varied Drawings. Ages 8 And Above Are The Target Audience For Both The Original And Its Modified Equivalent. American Girl Has Also Published A Number Of Additional How-to Books On Subjects Including Friendship Issues And Understanding Emotions, And Last Year The Company Launched Dude Stuff: The Body Book For Boys, A Puberty Manual For Guys.
The Publisher Claims That There Is No Reference Of Sex Since All Of The Novels Are Aimed At Young Readers. The Writers State That Readers “On The Front End Of Puberty” Are The Target Audience. Puberty Typically Starts For Most Females Between The Ages Of 9 And 13. However Most Medical Professionals Concur That Today’s Children Experience Puberty At Earlier Ages Than In The Past. According To A 2010 Research In The Medical Journal Pediatrics, By Age 7, Roughly 23% Of African American Girls, 15% Of Latina Girls, And 10% Of White Girls Exhibited Noticeable Breast Growth.
American Girl Was First Motivated To Release The Book By Early-onset Puberty. The Business Was And Still Is Mostly Recognised For Its Pricey Dolls And Companion Books With Little Girl Characters Living Throughout Various Periods Of American History. Since 1993, It Has Also Been Putting Out A Bimonthly Magazine For Preteens. After The Publication Of The Magazine, The Business Rapidly Gathered A Sizable Stack Of Handwritten Letters From Young Readers Asking About Their Developing Bodies. Several Letter Writers Questioned Their Beauty. Some Questioned If They Needed To Lose Weight Or Why They Hadn’t Yet Developed Breasts. Then, In 1997, Joy Rowland, The Creator Of American Girl, Read A New York Times Piece On Early-onset Puberty And Saw A Chance.
American Girl Periodicals Were Such A Big Thing In Our Home When We Were Little. My Sister And I Both Got Dolls And Books That Went With Them, And I Subscribed To The Magazine. Naturally, When I Began To Get Older, I Lost Interest In The American Girl Phenomena, But This Book Was Still Quite Beneficial. It Was A Gift From My Mother, Who Placed It On My Bed While I Was Away At School. She Was Aware That I Would Find It Awkward To Discuss Some Of The Preteen (Or Just Entering The Teenage Years) Concerns With Her.
It Was Much Simpler For Me To Learn About Some Of This Information From A Book I Trusted Than It Was To Question My Mother About The Benefits And Drawbacks Of Using Tampons And What Kind Of Product To Use When My Underarms Smell.
I Like How This Book Avoids Giving Girls Too Serious Information That Can Mislead Them About Eating Problems And Mental Instability. I Like How They Always Suggest Reaching Out To A Parent, Teacher, Or Other Trustworthy Adult As Necessary.
I’m Grateful That American Girl Was There For Me, And I Hope That It Will Continue To Serve Girls In The Future.
It Is Obvious That This Book Is A Part Of The American Girl Series.
Many Advantages And Drawbacks
For The Most Part, The Information Appears To Be Evenly Distributed. The Urge To Compare Oneself To Representations Of Women And Girls In The Media, Details On The Boobies (Shapes, Sizes, Care, How Long They Take To Grow, Bras, Etc.), Eating Disorders, Periods, And Other Topics Are Discussed. Diversity Is Discussed, But It Is Discussed On An Ethnic Rather Than A Gender, Size, Or Anything Else Basis. But, It Also Offers Some General Grooming Suggestions That I Found Annoying And Too Feminine.
The Period Information’s Mention Of Menstruation Products, Which Is Restricted To Pads, Tampons, And Pantyliners, Is Insufficient In My Opinion. However, It Just Displays A Calendar To Help You Keep Track Of Your Menstrual Cycle; There Are Many Other, More Comprehensive Internet Tools Available.
While Anybody May Have A Yi Or Uti, There Is Nothing Concerning Stis And Other Such Conditions, Perhaps Owing To The Audience’s Age Range. There Should Have Been Anything Concerning Yis And Utis, In My Opinion.
It Is Unfortunate That There Is Little Written On Gender Dysphoria.
As Far As I Can Tell, This Tiny Book’s Tone And Voice Are Perfect. On Page 10, Its Overarching Concept Is Summarised: “You Can Feel Helpless In The Face Of Your Expanding Physique. It’s Untrue! When It Comes To Taking Care Of These Necessities, You Are In Charge.”
In Other Respects, It Also Seems To Be Rather Empowering. Page 9 Displays: “Keep In Mind That Your Body Is A Constantly Evolving Entity. Try Not To Think About How It Seems. Instead, Consider All The Wonderful Things Your Body Is Capable Of.” And On Page 11: “Your Body Belongs To You And No One Else. You Have The Right To Safeguard It And Maintain Its Confidentiality.”
It Seems To Utilise Suitable Terminology And To Explain Things Clearly While Some Phrases May Only Be Passingly Acquainted (Ex., Hormones Are “Chemicals Your Body Produces To Change You From A Young Girl To A Woman”—simplistic).
There Is A Lot Of Big Type And Photographs To Break Up The Text, Which Generally Looks To Be A Fantastic Style. Generally, Information Is Presented In Bite-sized Chunks. While The Images Are All Cartoons, They Do Depict Real Nipples, Vulvae, And Even A Uterus. While A Variety Of Nationalities Are Represented, The Body Types Are All Essentially The Same And Have An Athletic, Non-fat Look. Everyone Seems To Be Quite Feminine.
I Simply Found It A Little Unsettling Because It Appeared To Represent A Fairly Homogenised Feminine-but-athletic Body Type. When Young Girls Are Worried About Natural Variance, How Useful And Realistic Is It To Depict Bodies That All Appear The Same?
Nothing In There Addressed What To Do If You Don’t Feel Feminine. I Believe It Makes An Effort To Be Uplifting And Non-judgmental, But It Does It From A Pretty Limited Perspective.
To Paraphrase A Friend: “What Ag Puts Out Is “Wholesome And Encouraging But Essentially Meaningless […:] I Believe That As A Firm, They Are Attempting To Be Uplifting And Healthy Without Being Very Confronting, Which Is Why There Aren’t Any Overt Statements Regarding Trans Problems Or Anything Else. They Want To Avoid Pressing Too Many Buttons.”
In Conclusion, It’s Probably Ok By Most People’s Standards, But I Wouldn’t Recommend This Book To My Prepubescent Daughter. I Regret Not Being Able To Give It 2.5 Stars.
For My Kid, Who Is Nearly 9 Years Old, I Purchased This Book. That Was An Excellent Book For Outlining All The Changes That Will Take Place Soon. I Like That It Covers Everything (Sex Is An Exception), But It Also Made It Easier For Me To Introduce That Subject From The Book. Anybody Searching For A Means To Communicate To Their Pre-pubescent Daughter About Puberty Should Read This Book, In My Opinion. I Also Advise Doing What We Did, Which Was To Go Shopping With The Ladies, Have Supper, And Then Check Into A Hotel. The Option To Speak In Complete Solitude And Without Interruption From Other Family Members Is Provided.
