Kriya Yoga is an ancient yoga system revived in modern times by Lahiri Mahasaya and brought to international awareness by Yogananda.Kriya yoga accelerates spiritual development and engenders God-communion.Kriya Yoga is an ancient science rediscovered and clarified by Babaji, but Patanjali’s work is absent from Yogananda’s writings.Lahiri Mahasaya received initiation into Kriya Yoga from Mahavatar Babaji in 1861. His disciples included Sri Yukteswar Giri, Panchanan Bhattacharya, Swami Pranabananda, Swami Kebalananda, Keshavananda Brahmachari, and Bhupendranath Sanyal.Yogananda introduced Kriya Yoga to the West in 1920.The Yoga Sutras are a compilation of multiple traditions of yoga, with the eight limbs being an interpolation into the text on kriya.Yoga is more a practice than a philosophy, and it does not believe in contradicting other philosophies. To find the proper way, we need knowledge from scriptures and/or a master who is realized or in the process of being realized. Without practice, it can be devastating.
There is only one route to reach the Ultimate, that is to know the Self. This is stated in Upani Adistra, where it is said that eko hamso bhuvanasyasya madhye sa evagniJ, salile samnivi talJ, tarneva viditva-timrtyumeti nanyaJ, pantha vidyate ayannaya. Multiplicity is the creation of the ignorance, avidya, and He is the Divine Bird, hamsaJ, who kills the ignorance. Removal of the ignorance is the Knowledge, and when “I” merges with ‘That’ then this is hamsaJ, and when “I” recognizes and merges with ‘That’ then this is the Knowledge. The water is the form of priirJa or life, and that it is the base of the whole world. Water is the cosmic physical body, Viriita Purna, and the individual body, salila. According to the Chiindogya Upani ad, the water becomes Pu a and takes a human form. To understand the principle of spiritualism, one must know it within their own body system, and only then can they become immortal. This is the knowledge of the inner sel, not the knowledge of the outer world. The Lord Fire is the presiding deity of a yajita and is the form of the Knowledge. The Fire-god, the performer, the priests, and others are all One-Principle. Unity is sought with the Principle casting off the wrong identity. The Power of Consciousness is both the power of knowledge and the power called vitality or vigor. The Fire manifests as life in this earth and its fuel is the Sun, which is the source of all the lives in our earth. We pray to the Lord Fire.
The harhsa is the all-pervading Self or the prii’fa of all and it is the Sun. The Sun is the soul of the world, the soul of all the gods, and the soul of all living beings. It is said to be the soul of the world, the soul of all the gods, and the soul of all living beings. The Sun is also known as the Hirai:iyagarbha or the prii’fa for our world. The Sun is the life of all beings and symbolizes the all-pervasive Consciousness. It is also called Aditya, one of Aditi’s eight sons, and is sustaining the universe. It possesses a thousand rays and exists in hundred forms. In Chandogya Upanisad, both the Pra7Ja and the Sun are said to be the same, with the Pra7Ja being in the form of heat and the Sun being in the form of heat. The Sun symbolizes all pervading Consciousness and is addressed as Aditya or the son of Aditi, representing the priir.ia, both the vital energy and the knowledge. The Sun is the hamsa for our solar system and by understanding the principle of Hamsa the Sun we will understand the principle of Hamsa the Supreme Self. The praria is the life of all beings, the Sun is the All-Pervading Consciousness in its Kinetic Form, the Dwarf One is the Self, the Brahman, the Sun or the Prarta, the active form of the Brahman, and the Knowledge is the Dwarf One. The Dwarf One shines in the cave of intellect, like the size of a thumb, in the cranium inside the brain from the point between eyebrows up to fontanel, and both the mind and intellect work due to the praria.
The five sheaths of the body principle are the Food Sheath, Vital Sheath, Mind Sheath, Knowledge Sheath, and Bliss Sheath. The Knowledge Sheath interacts with the Mind Sheath, Bliss Sheath, Vital Sheath, and Food Sheath. The Mind Sheath is the most beneficial and wicked among all, and is to be taken seriously on the fronts of social growth and spiritual practice. The Food Sheath, Annamaya Kola, is formed by the union of sperm and ovum from the father and mother, and develops into the fetus inside the mother’s womb due to the essence of food eaten by the mother. The Food Sheath is the material body made from the five gross elements named ether, air, fire, water, and air. It is made up of the five sense organs, jiianendriya-s, and the five action organs, karmendriya-s.Bhrgu practiced meditation, tapalJ, to identify the individual material body with the cosmic material body, Virata. The Vital Sheath, Pra7J-amaya Kn5a, is a much greater term. The Vital Sheath activates the entire physiologic system of the body and organs, made up of subtle organs and life-force. This vital energy is the subtler than physical energies, and without it the Food Sheath is a dead body. Mental energy receives energy from this source and cannot act without it.
Odisha is a place where devotees gather to see the Lord of the Universe, Jaganniitha, on a chariot. It is said that one who sees Jaganniitha on the chariot does not attend another birth and is liberated. The sun should be in Gemini, i.e., Visuddha cakra, and the moon or mind should be on Cancer, at the Aina cakra. The Jyoti mudrii is a celebration of the eyes of Lord Jagannatha, with a black circle inside, a white ring around it, and a red thin ring against a black background. The body is the mirror image of the universe and the individual self is the mirror image of the Cosmic Self, the Brahman. All festivals and deities represent our inner principle.Vai Qavi mudrii is a technique used to meditate with open eyes. There are three variations: fixing attention inside the Aina cakra, half-closed or half-open, and lifted up and towards the inner comers. A practitioner should not step into this kriyi without a proper master and being firmly established in the Harilsa Sadhana and the First Kriya techniques. Success in Khecari requires a long period of uninterrupted practice. The Second Kriya Techniques include the Kriya Proper Breath Technique, the Kriya Meditation, and the Jyoti Mudrii Technique. It is taught either in two or three steps and includes the Kriya Proper Breath Technique, the Kriya Meditation, and the Jyoti Mudrii Technique.
The contributions made by the author to their spiritual life. It is our real life, it is our life to reveal the light we are. To understand yoga, we must understand our own life and our own body, both physical and subtle, that which conceals the real “Being” within us.
