The Most Recent Batch Of Interview Transcripts From The House Committee Looking Into The Attack On The Us Capitol On January 6 Were Made Public On Friday.
The Panel’s Interviews With Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh Mcenany And Former President Donald Trump’s Daughter Ivanka Are Among The 46 Transcripts That Are Available On The Committee’s Website.
According To Mcenany’s Testimony, The Transcripts Indicate That Trump Called Her A Few Days After She Received Her Subpoena To Appear Before The Committee On January 6th.
Mcenany, Though, Told The Investigators That She Ignored The Call.
According To The Transcripts, She Said That She Thought President Trump Called Her Shortly After She Was Subpoenaed, But She Chose Not To Answer. “As I Made Clear To The Committee, I Haven’t Spoken To Him Since He Was Called To Testify. But To The Best Of My Memory, That’s All. There May Have Been Another Text That I Forgot About.”
The Committee Said They Are Aware Of “Multiple Efforts By President Trump To Contact Select Committee Witnesses” In Its Prodigious Final Report, Which Was Released Late Thursday Night, And That The Justice Department Is Aware Of At Least One Of Those Circumstances.
Mcenany Said That After Being Subpoenaed, She Also Received Texts From General Keith Kellogg And Trump Ally Kash Patel And Spoke On The Phone With Stephen Miller, A Former Trump Aide.
Ivanka Trump Repeatedly Informed The Committee During Her Testimony That She Was Unable To Recall Or Remember The Responses To Their Inquiries On Her Actions And Conversations On January 6—including Those With Her Father.
The Phrase “Don’t Recall,” “Don’t Remember,” Or “Don’t Know” Was Used By Her And The Investigators More Than 300 Times Throughout The Interview, According To The Transcripts.
When Ivanka Said She Never Discussed The Events Of January 6 With Her Husband, Jared Kushner, As They Were Returning Home From The White House That Night, Committee Members At Times Seemed Doubtful About Some Of Her Responses.
Committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney Pressed Her At One Point, Saying, “You Just Lived Through What Is Understandably Very — As You’ve Explained, An Experience That I Think Was Incredibly Traumatic.” “You Would Have Had A Hands-on Role In It. Very Intense, In Fact. And Since Then, Have You Not Spoken To Your Husband About It?”
In Its Summary Report, Which Was Published Earlier In The Week, The Committee Noted That “Ivanka Trump Was Not As Forthcoming As… Others About President Trump’s Conduct.” In Fact, Ivanka Trump’s Chief Of Staff Julie Radford Remembered Ivanka Trump’s Statements And Actions With More Specificity.
Days After The Attack On The Capitol, According To Former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks’ Testimony, Trump Asked Her Whether January 6 Was “As Bad As Everyone Says It Was.” Yes, Hicks Told Him, She Proved.
“In One Day He Ended Every Future Opportunity That Doesn’t Include Speaking Engagements At The Local Proud Boys Chapter,” Hicks Said She Texted A Colleague About Trump After January 6 In Reference To The President.
In Addition To Marc Short, Who Served As Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief Of Staff, Other Interviewees Whose Transcripts Were Made Public On Friday Included Former Attorney General Bill Barr, Former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone, Former Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, And Trump Supporter Sidney Powell.
The Release On Friday Came After The Publication Of Three Dozen Interview Transcripts During The Previous Week.
Former President Donald Trump’s Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, Proud Boys Leader Enrique Tarrio, Oath Keepers Leader Stewart Rhodes, Infowars Host Alex Jones, Former Trump Campaign Adviser Roger Stone, And Trump-backed Attorneys John Eastman And Jenna Ellis Are Among The Witnesses Whose Testimony Was Released Earlier This Week.
The Majority Of The Transcripts Included Answers From Witnesses Claiming Their Fifth Amendment Right Against Self-incrimination.
As The Culmination Of Its 17-month Investigation, The Committee’s Final Report Urged Congress To Take Into Account Preventing Trump From Holding Further Office For Allegedly Being The Leader Of A “Multi-part Conspiracy To Overturn The Legitimate Results Of The 2020 Presidential Election.”
The House Select Committee Looking Into The Attack On The Capitol On January 6, 2021, Released Transcripts Of The Testimony It Had Gathered From 46 Witnesses On Friday. Interviews With Ivanka Trump, The President’s Daughter, Pat Cipollone, Kayleigh Mcenany, Sidney Powell, An Attorney, And Several Rioters Are Included In The Most Recent Transcripts.
Keeping Notes On Her Phone Allowed White House Press Secretary Kayleigh Mcenany To Quote Trump As Saying, “They Have To Stand Down,” In Reference To The Proud Boys. Committee Members Pointed Up The Error In The Quote: During One Of The 2020 Presidential Debates, Trump Advised Them To “Stand Back And Watch.” Mcenany Said That She Had No Proof Of The Source Of The Quote She Used.
Our Nevada Strategy, In My Opinion, Is Creating As Much Chaos As Possible. In An Email Chain Sent On November 8, 2020, With Other Trump Officials, Including Campaign Manager Bill Stepien And Deputy Campaign Manager Justin Clark, Miller, A Trump Adviser, Described Plans To Challenge The Election Outcome There. Stepien Said The Approach Was Ok But Added, “No More Four Seasoning.”
Pat Cipollone, A Former White House Counsel, Often Referred To January 6 As A “Tragedy.” However, When Rep. Jamie Raskin Questioned Him, He Refused To Specify What Kind Of Tragedy It Was (D-md.).
Was It Tragedy In The Sense That It Resulted From One Person’s Tragic Flaws, Or Was It Tragedy In The Sense That It Was A Natural Tragedy? Raskin Enquired.
“I Think It Would Be Wise Of Me Not To Engage In That Kind Of Discussion Or Questioning From A Talented Lawyer Like You,” Cipollone Told The Committee Member Before Declining To Respond.
Donald Trump And His Allies Had A Direct Hand In The Nevada Republican Party’s Scheme To Send A Phoney Electoral Certificate To Congress In 2020 In A Last-ditch Attempt To Keep The Former President In Power, According To New Transcripts Of Closed-door Testimony Before The Jan. 6 House Committee.
Interviews With Jim Degraffenreid, A Member Of The Republican National Committee, And State Party Leader Michael Mcdonald From February Were Among The Documents Made Public On Wednesday Evening. On December 14, 2020, Both Men Worked As Fictitious Electors In Carson City.
Six Nevada Republicans Who Said Trump Would Win Nevada In 2020 Signed Certificates That Day And Sent Them To Congress And The National Archives, Where They Were Ultimately Ignored. Investigating The Role That These Phoney Electors In Crucial Battleground States Played In Trump’s Attempt To Hold Onto Power After His Defeat In 2020 Is The House Committee Looking Into The Attack On The Capitol On January 6.
In Their Separate Interviews With The Jan. 6 Committee, Mcdonald And Degraffenreid Used The Fifth Amendment Hundreds Of Times, Declining To Respond To Inquiries About Their Involvement And The Degree To Which Trump’s Top Allies Had Assisted In Planning The Plot.
However, The Transcripts Nonetheless Provide Insight Into The Coordinated Efforts Made By The Trump Campaign In Nevada To Overturn The Election’s Results, Including Direct Communication Between Mcdonald And The President.
In A Text Message Exchange On November 4, 2020, The Day After The Election, Mcdonald Reportedly Said The Following: “This Morning, I Spoke With The President (Trump), Eric Trump, Mark Meadows, And Rudy Giuliani On The Phone. There Is A Significant Plan.”
Mcdonald Later Described The Call In A Text Message By Writing, “They Want Full Attack Mode.” In About An Hour, We’re Going To Have A War Room Meeting.
Both Mcdonald And Degraffenreid Sent The Committee’s Members Their Communications From The Fake Elector Scheme On January 6. In June, As Part Of Its Investigation Into The Scheme, The Fbi Also Seized Mcdonald’s Cellphone.
The Transcripts Go Into Great Detail About These Documents, Which Also Included Handwritten Charts, Press Release Templates, Internal Memos Sent By The National Gop Arm, And Talking Points “Explaining The Rationale For The Electors.”
The Transcripts Reveal That Extensive Planning Took Place, Starting Four Days Before The Election When State Party Officials Started Debating Whether Republican Secretary Of State Barbara Cegavske Of Nevada Would Approve The Alternate Slate Of Electors.
Degraffenreid Said That Cegavske “May Do A Lot Of Things, But Sending A Slate Of Republican Electors Without Their Being Clearly The Winners Of The Popular Vote Is Not One Of Them” In A Text Message Exchange With Party Officials.
After Being Attacked By Trump And Others Within Her Own Party, Cegavske Ultimately Certified President Joe Biden’s Victory In Nevada, Defending The Results As Accurate And Reliable. This Caused The Nevada Republican Party To Censure Her. She Later Carried Out An Investigation, But It Turned Up No Solid Proof Of Widespread Voter Fraud In The Whole State.
The Transcripts Reveal That Mcdonald Was More Irritated With The Rnc’s Direction Over How To Conduct The Certificate Signing The Day Before The Slate Of Fake Electors Met. He Seems To Have Discussed The Logistics Of The Ceremony With The Rnc, Including The Venue, How To Publicise It, And What The Speakers Would Say.
Shawn Meehan, One Of The Fake Electors, Texted Degraffenreid And Said, “Rnc Essentially Put Us In A Box On What We Can Say, But Doesn’t Sound Too Bad.”
Meehan Further Informed Degraffenreid That Mcdonald Preferred A Smaller Group To Finalise Plans Over Breakfast And That He Is “Stressing On The Optics.” The Fact That Another Fake Elector Texted Degraffenreid The Same Day Stating That Mcdonald Was Upset With “Mixed Messages And Direction On Publicity For Tomorrow” Was Evident To Many Of The Fake Electors.
In A Message, Meehan Wrote, “He’s Very Concerned Rnc Will Cut Cord If It Looks Bad And Steal Credit If We Do Well.”
Degraffenreid Said, “I Know. He Worries That We Seem To Be Foolish Crybabies.
In The End, The Nevada Republican Party Persisted, And After Almost Two Months Of Preparation, Mcdonald, Degraffenreid, And The Other Fictitious Electors Gathered In Carson City For A Ceremony Outside The Capitol Building.
“History Was Made Today In Carson City, Nevada, When @mcdonaldnv Led Our Electors In Casting Nevada’s Six Electoral Votes For The Victor Of Nevada, @realdonaldtrump, The State Party Would Post On Social Media After The Ceremony. @mike Pence, Too!”
On Thursday Evening, Mcdonald Did Not Immediately Respond To Requests For Comment. Degraffenreid’s Attorney Said That He Declined To Comment.
When Republicans Take Control Of The House Next Month, The Nine-member Committee Looking Into The Capitol Riot Of January 6, 2021, Will Dissolve. The Committee Released Its Whole 800-plus Page Report On Thursday After An 18-month Investigation, In The Hopes That It May Result In Criminal Charges Being Brought Against Trump And His Key Allies.
