This book is an adaptation of our textbook in Japanese, simply titled “Humanoid robots.” We wrote the book because we wanted to condense the fundamental information about the analysis and control of humanoid robots for our own usage.

Although the original book was written nine years ago, we think the fundamental ideas are still relevant today. We have added new sections to Chapters 1, 2, and 4 to include recent findings from our team and others. •  To create artificial robot hands with capabilities akin to the human hand, extensive study has been done. To move the hands deftly, several actuators are needed. However, if extra actuators are included for the hand design, the humanoid robot’s control system becomes more intricate.
• This is a crucial component of the robotic arm since a person with a disability would not be able to operate a complicated hand mechanism with numerous actuators. We suggest creating a light hand that is controlled by a single actuator because of this. In order to do this, a new system for the coordinated movement of finger and palm joints was adopted.
