You Recently Took A Plane To New York.
There Are Further 123 More Passengers On Board.
You Are Unaware That Your Pilot’s Family Was Kidnapped Thirty Minutes Before To Takeoff.
Everyone On Your Flight Has To Perish For His Family To Live.
Only If The Pilot Obeys His Orders And Crashes The Plane Will The Family Be Able To Survive.
Embrace The Flight.
Former Flight Attendant And Bookseller T.j. Newman’s First Book, Falling, Became A Publishing Sensation And Debuted At Number Two On The New York Times Bestseller List. The Book Has Been Published In More Than Thirty Countries And Has Been Named A Best Book Of The Year By Several Publications, Including Usa Today, Esquire, And Amazon. Soon, Universal Pictures Will Release A Significant Motion Picture Based On The Book. In Phoenix, Arizona, T.j. Resides. Her Second Novel Is Called Drowning.
Wow, This Story Was So Incredibly Dull That I’m Almost Speechless. It’s Really Rather Unbelievable Given The Premise.
Flight 416, Which Has 149 Passengers On Board And Is Headed To Jfk, Is Being Flown By Bill Hoffman. He Is Unaware That His Wife And Kids Have Been Taken Hostage And Are Being Held Captive. He Is Given The Option To Crash The Plane Or His Family Would Perish While His Plane Is In Midair.
That Doesn’t Sound Too Interesting, But The First Few Chapters Were. But The Worse It Became, The More I Read. The Main Issue Is That There Is Nothing Interesting, Novel, Or Even Compelling About This. This Is The Book That Would Be Made Up Entirely Of Clichés. Naturally, The Passengers Are Angry, The Flight Attendants Are Heroic, The Bad Guys Are Middle Eastern, And The Authorities Are Well-intentioned But Inept.
Each Dialogue Was So Predictable And Cliche That It Made Me Cringe. Every Scene Seemed To Be A Rehash Of One I’d Already Seen In A Bad Action Movie. Focusing Is Difficult When You Already Know How Everything Will Turn Out. Because My Brain Filled In All The Blanks Without Having Read Any Of It, I Caught Myself Skimming Many Times.
I Never Developed Any Strong Emotional Bonds With The Characters. They Are Only Stereotypes, And Any Other Character Fitting The Same Category Might Stand In For Them. Everything In This Place Has A Simplicity And Predictability That Exhausts Me And Completely Bores Me To Tears.
In All Honesty, You Don’t Need To Read This Book. Simply Close Your Eyes And Picture Some Hijacking-related Scenes. You Just Saved Yourself A Lot Of Time, And Whatever You Just Imagined Is More Exciting Than Anything You Could Learn From This Book. Thanks For Visiting.
I’d Like To Start Off By Saying That I Really Enjoy This Writer’s Background. I Like This Book’s Backstory. I Like That It Exists Because It Allows For The Telling Of All Different Kinds Of Stories, And I Eagerly Welcome The Rainbow. I Too Cannot Wait For The Film.
So. This Is A Fantastic Story That Is A Complete Thriller, Action-packed, Sometimes Ridiculous, But Always Interesting. I Finished Reading This Book Quickly.
Bill, A Tall Handsome Airline Captain, Is Given The Impossible Choice Of Crashing The Plane He Is Flying From Lax To Jfk Or His Family—a Hot, Perfect Wife, A Brave Son, And A Precious Baby Daughter—will Be Murdered. In Order To Comply With Sam, His Torturer,’s Instructions, He Must Also Poison The Cabin And There Is Someone Aboard The Aircraft Who He Doesn’t Know. He Has Just Around Five Hours To Save The World And Isn’t Supposed To Tell Anybody; Instead, He’s Supposed To Kill His Co-pilot Ben.
What Is Sam Doing, And Why? Since He Is From Kurdistan And Has Legitimate Grievances Against The United States (As Do The Majority Of Other Nations), He Will Eventually Get His Just Desserts.
As A Frequent Traveller, I Found The Kind Of Insider Information Shared By Flight Attendants And Pilots To Be Really Fascinating. Great Action Was Taken.
The Characters Are Thinly Drawn, Full Of Clichés, And The Writing Is Often Subpar. These Are The Main Problems. Yes, The Writing Is Good And The Pacing Is Excellent At The Sentence Level. A Lot Of The Character Development That Does Occur, However, Occurs Via Bizarre Flashbacks That Conveniently Provide The Reader With The Details They Need To Contextualise What Is About To Happen. This Is An Odd Aspect Of The Structure. I Can See Why Things Are Done In This Way, But It’s Just Too Convenient. The Author’s Work Is Too Plainly Visible And Obvious.
The Tics Are The Next. For Instance, A Character’s Jaw Drops If They Are Startled. Throughout The Whole Book, Several People Had Their Jaws Drop. A Pandemic Of Jaw Drops. At Least Four Times, Bill’s Jaw Dropped. There Were Also Screams, Wide Eyes, And Other Reactions.
You Know How While Using The Internet On An Aeroplane, It Almost Never Works And You Can Hardly Download An Email? Bill Has Incredible Internet Access When Flying. Without Experiencing Any Connection Problems, He Spends The Whole Flight Facetiming With Both His Wife And The Kidnapper. It’s Really Absurd. You Almost Can’t Log On To That Terrible Internet.
Every Masculinity And Americana Cliche You Can Think Of Is Present Here. Warning: Spoiler! The Players Decide To Continue Playing The Game Despite Knowing There Is A Threat Coming Their Way In The Last Scene, Which Takes Place As The Plane Flies Above Dodger Stadium During Game 7 Of The World Series. Just… Amazing.
Theo, A Fbi Agent Who Challenges Authority, And Jo, A Diminutive Flight Attendant Who Is Also Feisty And Black, Are Among The Secondary Characters. Let Me Tell You, Every Time Theo’s Coworkers Call Him Big Daddy Or Daddy, I Just Giggled With Delight Because It Was So Peculiar. The Third Flight Attendant Who Is New But Rises To The Occasion Is Kellie, I Believe. Aside: In What Kind Of World Would A Transcontinental Flight Have Only Three Flight Attendants? Even On Single-aisle Planes, Which I Happen To Take Often, There Are Usually About Five Or Six Flight Attendants!
Anyway, It’s All Right. A Fun Thriller, This. I Just Notice Things Of This Kind.
Despite Being A Good Husband And Father, Captain Bill Hoffman Finds It Difficult To Avoid Disappointing His Wife And Children When His Sense Of Duty Compels Him To Accept A Trip At The Request Of His Employer At Coastal Airlines. While His Son Scott Is Understandably Disappointed That The Trip Interferes With The First Game Of His Little League Season, His Wife Carrie Is Even More Irate That Bill Isn’t Honouring His Commitment To Attend. Even Still, Considering How Quickly Their Disputes Normally End, Bill Is Astonished That Carrie Hasn’t Replied To Any Of His Texts Prior To Flight. Only Until He And The Aircraft Are Safely Aloft Does He Get A Startling Video Call Showing His Family Bound Up And Wearing Explosive Vests, At The Mercy Of A Guy By The Name Of Sam.
Bill Is Facing A Deadline From Sam. Either The Jet Would Crash, Killing Everyone On Board, Or His Family Would Perish In A Fiery End. Bill Attempts To Negotiate, Much To Sam’s Delight, As He Can’t Comprehend Why Sam Would Want Him To Do This.
What Are You Missing, Bill? I Have No Desires. I’m Not After Money. A Prisoner Swap Is Not What I Desire. I’m Not Looking For Political Clout. Man, This Is Not 1968. It’s Hardly “Take Me To Cuba,” However. It’s Not Qanon Seeking For Children At A Pizzeria Or Any Other Nonsense That Your White Nationalists Think Is True. Furthermore, It’s Not Some Insane Jihad Stuff About 72 Virgins In Heaven. Nothing To Do With It At All.
He Leaned Against The Monitor.
“All I Want To See Is What A Decent Man—a Good American Man—does In A Circumstance When There Is No Way Out. What Would A Guy Like You Do When Forced To Make A Decision. Strangers On A Plane? Or Your Household?”
Of Course, Bill Automatically Replies “No” To The Question. He Won’t Slaughter A Whole Aircraft Full Of Passengers Or Put His Family In Danger. But From His Dangerous Perch Hundreds Of Feet In The Air, How Is He Expected To Stop It From Happening?
Sam Cautions Him Not To Tell Anybody, But Bill Asks Jo Watkins, His Lead Flight Attendant, For Assistance. Sam Claims That There Is A Backup Plan On Board The Aircraft, But Bill Has Complete Faith In Jo To Not Only Have His Back But Also To Remain Calm Under Pressure. Jo Is Left In Charge Of The Cabin To Covertly Prepare Her Unaware Passengers Without Drawing The Attention Of Whomever Could Be Sam’s Accomplice As Bill Bides His Time With Sam In The Pilot. Bill And Jo, Whose Nephew Is An Fbi Agent With A History Of Making Bad Choices, Must Work Together And Individually To Devise A Way To Rescue Not Just Bill’s Family But Also Their Innocent Fellow Passengers And Themselves.
A Fast-paced Page-turner, Falling Feels A Lot Like An Updating Of The 1980s-style Aeroplane Hijacking Subgenre. But Behind The Surface Of This Thriller Is A Maybe Unexpectedly Philosophical Examination Of The Price Of American Foreign Policy. It’s A Sincere Investigation Of The Motivations Behind Suicide Missions, Particularly In This Day And Age When Zealotry Is Generally Opposed And Despised.
The Way This Book Handles The Pressures Of Living At A High Altitude, However, Is Where It Truly Excels. Having Worked As A Flight Attendant For Eleven Years, T. J. Newman Is Aware Of The Requirements That Pilots And Attendants Must Achieve In Order To Guarantee The Safety Of Their Passengers As Well As The Enjoyment Of Their Flights. Occasionally, Individuals Who Don’t Realise How Demanding The Restaurant Industry Is Will Mock Flight Attendants For Being Little More Than Glorified Waitstaff, But Their Responsibilities Go Much Beyond Simple Hospitality.
Relentless Studying, Then Written Assessments. Self-defense And First Aid. Drilling Repeatedly The Evacuation Of A Large Number Of Passengers From A Flaming Plane Or During A Water Landing. She And Her Students Had Coordinated Survival By Yelling Orders Until They Were Hoarse While Panting And Out Of Breath. They Had Acquired Knowledge Of The Various Fires And Firefighting Techniques. Heart Attacks, Hazmat, And Hijackings. Air Marshals And Federal Rules. Turbulence. Terrorists. And All Of It In A Pressurised Metal Tube Travelling At 600 Mph At A Height Of 38 000 Feet. In Just One Of The Five Weeks Of Training Did They Cover Food, Beverages, And Hospitality.
The Reader Is Taken On A Rollercoaster Of Chills And Thrills Thanks To Ms. Newman’s Intimate Insight, Which Gives The Whole Situation A Level Of Plausibility And, Along With The Story’s Brisk Pace, A Sense Of Plausibility. Although There Are Numerous Logical Flaws, The Major Characters’ Motives Are Plausible And, Sometimes, Shockingly Sympathetic. In This Enjoyable Debut, Kindness Is A Strong Theme. Watching Ms. Newman Is A Skill.
