A Few Days Later, I Had An Argument With A Transphobe (Terf). Unlike Other Occasions When I Had Been Able To Firmly Dispute With People Who Were Illogical, This Time I Hesitated A Bit Because I Was Concerned That I May Not Have All The Facts Straight. I Then Saw That There Was A Lot More About The Community Of Gender Non-conforming People That I Needed To Learn.

One Of The Passages That Particularly Struck A Chord With Me Was When Vaid-menon Spoke About How People Are Prepared To Put Up With Folks Who Identify As Non-gender Conforming But Are Unable To Even Defend Them In Public. References Are Used By Vaid-menon To Demonstrate How Identities Have Lived Outside Of The Binary For Ages And How This Is Nothing New. Overall, I Simply Think This Book Was Too Brief For Something So Potent. I Also Wished Sources For Further Research Had Been Included. That Is Something That I Would Have Loved As Well. Alok, Like Many Others, Struggled For Years With Self-hatred And Humiliation For Not Being Able To Or Wanting To Fit Into The Preconceived Binary. As A Result, It Took Them Years To Reach A Point Of Peace And Acceptance With Themselves. This Short Book Challenges Us To Think Deeply About Our Preconceived Notions About Gender And To Be Open To A More Inclusive Understanding Of This Element Of Being Human.

This Book Is A Great Introduction To Non-binary Problems For Being Fewer Than 70 Pages! Very Recommended

This Is A Little, Deeply Felt Book That Is Rather Nice. I Believe It Would Be An Excellent Introduction For Anybody In My Life Who Issues With Using My Pronouns Or Understanding What It Means To Be Non-binary. I Follow Vaid-menon On Instagram, And I Won’t Be Too Hard On Myself If I Admit That I Find Them Really Inspiring—both For Their Inventiveness And The Happiness They Seem To Find In Just Being, As Well As For The Way They Handle The Stuff They Post Both Online And In Real Life With Such Grace.
